Born and raised in Tasmania, my family background is Moroccan and Scottish Tasmanian. My first child was born when I was just 22 years old, and after many years as a single mother, I became a stepmother to two wonderful boys when I married my husband ten years later. In the following years, we had two more wonderful children together - one gorgeous non-binary child and a lovely daughter, all of whom keep my life busy and full of love.
Alongside juggling motherhood, I spent the first half of my career working in academia, working in research ethics and specializing in the field of feminist philosophy and gender studies, including having the incredible experience of studying under Prof Judith Butler at the University of California Berkeley. I also worked in the state government health department, as well as running clinical networks of Rehabilitation and Aged Care providers. I have sat on boards of the Hobart Women’s Shelter, Australian Association of Gerontology and Care Assessment Consultants.
I am an accredited counsellor and mediator and have been facilitating women’s circles, playgroups and mothers groups for many years. I bring my whole self to the counselling session, and am able to hold space in a compassionate, non-judgmental, warmhearted and professional manner. I look forward to working with you.
About me
My Therapeutic Approach
My approach to counselling is to utilize an evidence based approach drawing upon a range of trauma informed therapeutic interventions, incorporating holistic practices like meditation, mindfulness and body based, somatic techniques such as polyvagal toning to calm the nervous system to promote healing and self awareness.
By taking a strengths-focused and person-centred approach, we will work together to achieve your goals, whilst building your own capabilities, to ensure results are sustained in the long-term. I work with your whole self, and look to create a safe therapeutic space in which you can tune in to your own innate wisdom.
